Personatus
Personatus is a photographic exploration of the fake, masked, disguised & counterfeit.
It is the mask we put on each day as individuals and as a society. Who are we really? Who do we try to convey we are? Why do we pretend? Why do we hide? The breakdown of that wall and who we are at our most raw.
Inspired by people whose paths have crossed our own. Each artist will explore their own journey of Personatus. From here, artist Jasmine Lord will explore these beings through the use of mask, both beautiful and hideous. Personatus has many disguises, we all have a collection of camouflages that live within us.
The initial development will begin with the use of "quack" or beaked masks as used in the middle ages by plague doctors to try to ward off the black death. Jasmine will examine beauty, ascertain the lie behind the beauty masks and release the obscured self . Once we remove our pretense and find security with who we are inside we can flourish to become something much more than our masks could ever allow.
While masks in some cultures are used in ceremony or celebration, even performance, the journey for Personatus will focus on occupational and relationship masks and how it affects our lives.
